Hero Points System

How to earn them

Hero Points will be awarded for good roleplaying and ideas. They will be given both in and out of combat. Immediately after your character does something deserving, you will be give a Hero Chip (aka a poker chip) representing one Hero Point.

Examples of things that would get points:

  • convincing an unco-operative NPC to give you information
  • stuffing a sack over the head of a spellcaster to prevent casting
  • setting up an effective ambush
  • getting another PC to see reason
  • throwing yourself in front of a spell ray meant for someone else
    etc.

    Purchasing Using Hero Points

Points can be turned in for feats or ability increases only when a character goes up level.
  • feats costs 5 points for the first, 10 for the second, 15 for the third, etc. (exceptions: Toughness costs 3 points, Skill Focus costs 4 points)
  • one ability increase costs 15 points for the first, 20 for the second, etc.
  • one Hero Point can be turned in for 100 XP for use in creating a magic item during the creation process

Using Hero Points for Heroic Actions

Once per encounter, you can turn in a hero point to add 1/2 the die value you're rolling to your roll (+10 on d20, +3 on d6, etc.) Costs are subject to change later on if it turns out I set the price too cheap or too expensive. The idea is that over the course of 4-5 sessions a character would go up one level and earn at most the points to buy one feat.
